Uh, hi! My name's Fred Burkle, and you've probably seen that we've been paired for the month. So I mostly wanted to check in, see if there's anything you need or anything you want to talk about or- hell, ask about me. I'm...honestly I think this two-class system is a little...off, so I want to help where and if I can.

Um, I'm from Earth, I like physics and any kind of machine I can get my hands on, and I'm a supervisor in Maintenance. And your name...is it pronounced Sher-add-eh-nine Zah-kahl-weh? [ She winces a bit. ] Am I anywhere near close, there?

After they read his file, Avalon waits for their item to show that their inmate is in his cabin. They show up with both his file and theirs. Several hundred tiny, blood-red beads coil up their arm, starting right above their item.

Maybe they should wait, but this is important. They need to know his version of the story, not just the Admiral’s. They want to see how he reacts to the Admiral’s, to the file’s delivery, to the way that it tells them what he did without telling them much about how he got to that point. He knows his reasoning, and the Admiral knows the events. They need both.

I'm pretty damn tough. I don't feel a lot of pain or anything like that. I don't think that's linked to my immortality.

I can go without sleep and food. [They nod and start walking to his cabin, making sure to neither outpace him or let him outpace them. They let their arm brush his occasionally, then shift further away until they start feeling the malaise.] How does this feel?

It was the first time for me, too. Did that make it harder to come back from being someone else?
